John Martin

Tampa Regional News, Editor and Researcher

I’m a Tampa native who grew up in Seminole Heights. I graduated from Hillsborough High School then got degrees at the University of Tampa and the University of South Florida. I joined the Times in 1995. In my role as senior news researcher, I help reporters find elusive details on stories and story subjects. Beginning in 2010, I was part of the Times reporting team that exposed the sham charity known as the U.S. Navy Veterans Association. And in 2012, I was researcher on "In God's Name," a Times series on unlicensed Christian group homes that was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. When I’m not spelunking for records for a story, you can likely find me fretting over the state of my backyard vegetable garden.
