WELL READ: LITERARY HEROES

Every artists needs a muse, and Sarasota artist Mike Hanlon’s are the world’s great authors. So it’s fitting that Hanlon’s exhibition of large-scale portraits, "Literary Heroes,e_SDRq is on display in Kotler Art Gallery at the John F. Germany Public Library (900 N Ashley Drive, Tampa) through Jan. 12. Hanlon’s oil paintings include many of the greats, from Charles Dickens to Kurt Vonnegut to Stephen King, pictured. He shares the name of a character in King’s novel It. I like that he skillfully captures not only their likeness, but also their essence. In addition to this exhibit, every month a different painting from this collection is on display at Inkwood Books (216 S Armenia Ave., Tampa). (813) 273-3652. mikehanlon.info.
