Sesame Street land is coming to SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld is building a Sesame Street-themed land to replace Shamu’s Happy Harbor play area on the south end of the park, with an expected completion in spring 2019.

This will be the first time SeaWorld Orlando will have a daily parade that features Elmo, Big Bird and other characters from the iconic PBS series. The land will also have a wet and dry play area and locations from the television show, such as Mr. Hooper’s store, designed to make kids feel like they are walking down Sesame Street to Big Bird’s nest.

"We are excited to transport our guests into the colorful and creative world of Sesame Street through immersive theming, character interactions and interactive play," said SeaWorld Orlando president Jim Dean in a news release.

The expansion comes as the Orlando-based SeaWorld Entertainment, which also owns Busch Gardens, struggles to overcome declining attendance and a change in leadership after CEO Joel Manby left the company in February.

SeaWorld is in spending more money on new rides such as Infinity Falls, a river raft ride with a 40-foot drop, that is expected to open this summer, as well as Ray Rush, a raft ride at the Aquatica water park.
