Food events this week: St. Pete Taco and Beer Fiesta, Brunched 2018, Sweet Corn Festival

TACOS: AND BEER

You can get the weekend started Friday evening at the St. Pete Taco and Beer Fiesta from 6 to 11 p.m. at Albert Whitted Park. It’s a serious all-star cast of food trucks: St. Pete Taco Lady, I Wanna Wok, Fiesta Bowls, Boom Boom Box, Just Smokin’ BBQ, Kebablicious, Shanghai Fresh, Casablanca Fusion, Krepelicious, Got Lobstah?, Anju Korean Gastrotruck, Ramen and Waffles, Smokin’ Bowls, Better Than Eve’s BBQ, Surf and Turf Truck, Sarge’s Smokehouse BBQ, Maggie on the Move, Flip’n Tasty Filipino Food Truck, Rubbed and Pulled and Sexton’s Pizza. The event is free and all food items are priced individually.

BREAKFAST OR LUNCH? GET BOTH

Brunch is a growing fetish on both sides of the bay. On Saturday on the Tampa side, you can sample brunch dishes from more than 10 area restaurants while indulging in a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar and mimosas at Brunched 2018 at the Rialto Theater. $40; upgrade to VIP for an extra hour of private sampling for $55. Noon to 3 p.m. 1617 N Franklin St., Tampa. (813) 739-4879.

IT’S TIME: CELEBRATE SWEET CORN

Have you had a slew of sweet Zellwood corn yet this season? Why not? Remedy that Saturday in Tarpon Springs at the Sweet Corn Festival, where you can enjoy live music by Ron and the Classics and the Boys of Tarpon Springs as you shop for crafts and feast on fresh roasted Zellwood corn, barbecue items and kettle corn. Free. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Craig Park, 100 Beekman Way, Tarpon Springs. (727) 510-3501.

PIGSKIN BATTLE: GRIDIRON CHALLENGE

For families, one of the top draws on Saturday takes place at the Gridiron Cooking Challenge in Tampa. Watch as area elementary and middle school students prepare their best healthy, dairy-based recipe on site for a panel of judges to select the winners of a $2,500 prize pack for their school. Also, there will be cooking demonstrations by Publix and photo opportunities with Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ali Marpet, Buccaneers cheerleaders and Captain Fear. Free. 9 a.m. to noon. 1 Buccaneer Place, Tampa. Toll-free 1-800-516-4443.

SUDS APLENTY: CRAFT BREWFEST

We’ve hardly said anything about craft beer thus far. Temple Terrace will slake your thirst with its Craft BrewFest on Saturday at Woodmont Park. It’s a celebration of local beers with all-you-can-drink of more than 100 offerings, food trucks and live music by NoNeed. $35 advance, $40 at the door, $20 designated driver. The event benefits Rotary Club charities. 4 to 8 p.m. 415 Woodmont Ave., Temple Terrace. (813) 230-3389.
