Itís that time of year again.
For the 16th straight year, 7-Eleven will give out free slurpees Wednesday for its annual "7/11 Day" on July 11.
Customers will be able to receive a free small Slurpee by going into any 7-Eleven location between 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
7-Eleven plans to give away around 9 million free Slurpees, said Sean Thompson, the companyís chief customer officer.
Founded in Dallas in 1927, the chain now has around 66,000 locations globally, including 11,800 in the United States and Canada. There are 44 locations in Tampa Bay, according to its website, with even more in surrounding counties.
7-Eleven launched the Slurpee in 1966 after an employee partially froze sodas to the point of slush, according to the company, and has no plans to stop serving the slushy drinks anytime soon.
"Free Slurpee day may be the most anticipated day of the year for millions of 7-Eleven customers and new customers alike," Raj Kapoor, 7-Elevenís senior vice president for fresh food and beverages, said in a statement.
