FINALE: LAST WEEK FOR EICHMANN

This is the last week to catch the Florida Holocaust Museum’s blockbuster exhibit, Operation Finale: The Capture and Trial of Adolf Eichmann, before it closes on July 15. The daring plot to kidnap the notorious Nazi from Argentina and smuggle him back to Israel for a trial televised around the world is the stuff of legend. A movie, also called Operation Finale, is coming out in September starring Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac and Oscar winner Ben Kingsley as Eichmann, the Nazi officer who masterminded the logistics to transport millions of Jews to concentration camps. The exhibit details the discovery of Eichmann and the mission and ultimately ends in a re-enactment of the first televised war crimes trial. Video montages put you in the 1961 courtroom with a replica of the actual bulletproof box Eichmann sat in, pictured above. To mark the end of the exhibit’s visit, the museum will have free admission July 12. Regular admission is $16, $14 seniors, $8 ages 7-17, military/students, 6 and younger free. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. 55 Fifth St. S, St. Petersburg. (727) 820-0100.

STEAMPUNK: AETHERTOPIA

Steampunk has been bubbling in the background of pop culture since the ’80s with imaginative ways to combine Victorian-era fashion, fantasy genres and industrial style. While fan conventions regularly see large numbers of steampunk participants, this weekend the cultural phenomenon gets its own convention in Aethertopia at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Aethertopia creator Anthony Sakovich, above, who goes by the cosplay name Lord Puddleton, said the story line will be "a city of artisans and makers who have transported across time" and are landing in Tampa this weekend. The focus on makers is big, with a People’s Choice contest for the fabulous hats, props and storytellers in each district as well as a judged contest of artwork, clothing, writing and gear. There will be a daily "costume pageant," as well as games like teapot racing and parasol dueling. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Florida State Fairgrounds Special Events Center, 4802 U.S. 301 N, Tampa. $39-$105, $15-35 children 3-12; younger free at aethertopia.com.
