Pinellas County hosts open house meeting for flood insurance changes

The county is hosting an open-house meeting Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Oldsmar City Council Chambers at 101 State St. W. County property owners have until July 31 to contest proposed changes in Pinellas County’s flood insurance rate maps with updated scientific and technical data. Property owners can view their current flood zone and potential map change at pinellascounty.org/flooding/fema_firm.htm.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue is hiring a fire cadet. The position is designed to provide a fire service career path opportunity to individuals seeking employment as a firefighter with St. Petersburg Fire Rescue. Individuals hired as fire cadets are provided with the education and training required to obtain firefighter and EMT certifications. No prior training or experience is required. These members are then eligible to be transitioned to the firefighter job classification with the city of St. Petersburg. Clearwater CRA hosts half-day showcase on tech

Clearwater's Community Redevelopment Agency will explore the future with a half-day showcase of discussion, demos and interactive activities that demonstrate how technology can play a powerful role in audience experience. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Second Century Studios, 331-A Cleveland St., residents and visitors can explore:

  • •An augmented and virtual reality demo with the University of South Florida's Access 3D Lab

  • •A 3-D printer from from the Clearwater Main Library's makerspaces

  • •A virtual reality gaming exhibit from the Escape Room Clearwater Beach

  • •A sound mixer and playground from Matthew Reisinger (FR33DBACK), a sight, sound and stage designer

  • •Spontaneous group vocal looping from Mouth Council and Billy Mays III

  • •An interactive and playful sight, sound and movement installation from The Urban Conga
