ST. PETERSBURG — The city of St. Petersburg is inviting residents to a public hearing about the new 40th Avenue NE Bridge over Placido Bayou.

Those who attend will get a chance to look at renderings of the proposed bridge and discuss the project with city staff, who will give a presentation of the planned work.

The public will also be given an opportunity to express their views concerning the location, conceptual design and the social, economic and environmental effects of the project.

RELATED STORY: 40th Avenue NE Bridge to be replaced

The hearing is being held as part of a study being conducted to address structural deficiencies of the current bridge. Originally built in 1961, the bridge was widened in 1990, but the Florida Department of Transportation now considers it to be structurally deficient.

The project to replace the bridge extends from 12th Street NE to west of 13th Way NE, a distance of 0.15 miles. The new bridge will accommodate two lanes of traffic, bicycle lanes and sidewalks.
