ST. PETERSBURG ― A 67-year-old woman was struck and killed while crossing Fourth Street N on Thursday night, according to police.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. along Fourth Street N near 76th Avenue N.

Svjetlana Vojnovic walked across Fourth Street N, going west, even though she did not have the light. Instead, north and southbound traffic on Fourth Street N had a green light. Vojnovic was almost struck by a northbound vehicle but got to the median safely, according to St. Petersburg police.

But then she continued walking west across the southbound lanes, police said, just south of the pedestrian crosswalk. She stepped into the path of a Jeep driving in the southbound center lane. The driver, Ryan Boyd, could not avoid striking her, according to police.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
