DUNEDIN — A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a Tuesday afternoon crash, according to the agency.
Deputy Jennifer Zinge, 45, was on duty and driving her unmarked sheriff’s vehicle, a 2013 Ford Fusion, west on Main Street when the crash took place just after 4 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said.
George Gillies, 86, of Dunedin, was driving east on Main Street in a 2000 Ford Taurus. He tried to make a left turn onto Pinehurst Road, but cut in front of the deputy. The two cars collided.
Both Zinge and Gillies were taken to the hospital with injuries that did were described as non-life threatening, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Gillies was issued a traffic citation for failing to yield.
Neither speed nor impairment appeared to be factors in the crash, investigators said.
