The Hillsborough County School Board on Tuesday elected Melissa Snively of Lithia as their chairwoman.
In doing so, the board honored a tradition that it does not always follow, of giving the position to its last year’s vice chair.
Snively was first elected in 2014 in East Hillsborough. She operates a State Farm insurance agency and has four children, three who are still in the Hillsborough County schools.
Steve Cona III, a new member who is running for re-election the northwest suburbs and Town 'N Country, was named vice chair. Cona is president of the Associated Builders and Contractors Florida Gulf Coast Chapter.
