ST. PETERSBURG — Police arrested a 15-year-old Northeast High School student Monday after officers said they found a BB gun in his backpack.

The student faces a third-degree felony charge for possession of a weapon on a school campus, according to an arrest affidavit.

The Times is not naming the child because of his age.

Few details about the incident were released, other than that school administrators learned about the gun from an anonymous tipster, then went to police. It was unclear late Monday whether the student was being held in a juvenile facility.
