The Pasco County Tax Collectorís office is issuing a warning to local auto dealers: Beware of Marlin Financial. The office will begin circulating a letter Thursday to auto dealers it does business urging them to "think long and hard" before interacting with the company.

Marlin was the subject of a Tampa Bay Times investigation that found customers of the company were faced with more debt than they expected, prompting an investigation by the Florida Attorney General.

"As a dealer in the community I felt that it was prudent to apprise you of this company and the allegations of fraud that have been made by many of its customers," the letter, signed by tax collector Mike Fasano, said. "You, of course, can do business with whomever you may choose. However, once you read the attached article, you may want to think long and hard if this is a company you want to do become involved with."
