YBOR CITY — Two people were killed after driving a truck the wrong way down a one-way street Friday evening, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Roberto Ramirez Diaz, 47, was driving a pickup truck south on North 15th Street, speeding, when his truck hit several parked cars, according to a spokesman for Tampa Police.

The truck then rolled onto its side in the intersection of 21st Avenue and collided with a Cadillac making a legal left turn before coming to a rest on its roof.

Tampa Police and Tampa Fire Rescue arrived at the intersection at around 8:35 p.m. and had to use equipment to cut the driver and passenger, 62-year-old Alejandro Ocampo, out of the car. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts. Investigators suspect alcohol was a factor in the accident, according to the spokesman.
