You want to know how rare a Beck show in Florida is? The dude hasn't played the Sunshine State since 2003, and he hasn't played Tampa since 1997 -- all the way back during the Odelay era.
But fresh off a handful of Grammy wins for his latest album Colors, the alternative hero is finally ready to please his Florida fans.
Beck has announced a co-headlining tour with Cage the Elephant that'll hit Tampa's MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Aug. 29. Joining them are a couple more notable acts: Indie rock heroes Spoon and up-and-comers Sunflower Bean. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
For a lot of fans, Cage the Elephant might be the bigger news here, as they've got an enormous Tampa Bay fan base thanks to longtime support from alt-rock station 97X. Their new album Social Cues will arrive in April.
But given Beck's reluctance to come our way throughout his career, he's definitely the newsier announcement. On a personal level, he's been at the top of my concert bucket list for years, so this show just shot to the top of my must-see list for 2019.
