To build excitement for its fall series of Broadway shows at Ruth Eckerd Hall, the Capitol Theatre this summer will run a series of Tony winners that made it to the big screen.

At $5 a ticket — $9 for unlimited fountain drinks and popcorn — it’s considerably cheaper than a Broadway show. And some of them can help you bone up on coming shows and movies.

Up first Friday is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The movie starred Johnny Depp. The School Edition of Sweeney Todd will be presented on the Ruth Eckerd Hall main stage by the students of the Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts on July 26-28.

Before Mary Poppins Returns hits the theaters starring Emily Blunt this Christmas, see the original Julie Andrews’ version on July 18. And before Rent’s 20th anniversary tour takes the stage at Ruth Eckerd Hall on April 11-12, see the movie version on July 21.

There will be three performances of The Sound of Music Dec. 22-23 at Ruth Eckerd, but you can see Julie Andrews, again, on screen as the troublesome singing nun July 22.

There’s also a Frozen sing-along July 29, but we suspect most of these movies will have audiences singing along.

Here’s the lineup

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, 7 p.m. July 6

Chicago, 7 p.m. July 13

• Mary Poppins, 3 p.m. July 18

Rent, 7 p.m. July 21

The Sound of Music, 2 p.m. July 22

Frozen (Sing-A-Long), 3 p.m. July 29

Across The Universe, 7 p.m. Aug. 5

The Lion King, 3 p.m. Aug. 11
