INDIAN ROCKS BEACH — A 74-year-old Largo man who lost control of his vehicle and was critically injured when it rolled over this past weekend died of his injuries on Monday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Bruce Kobel was pronounced dead at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg at about 11 a.m.

The crash took place at about 8:22 p.m. Saturday night on the Indian Rocks Causeway east of Gulf Boulevard.

Kobel was driving his 2008 Lincoln Town Car west on the Indian Rocks Causeway when deputies said he appeared to lose control after passing a vehicle on the right, then trying to get back into the left lane. The Lincoln skidded to the left and drove up onto the median, deputies said. The car hit two trees and then flipped over, landing on the passenger side.

The driver was flown to the hospital for medical treatment of what was described as life-threatening injuries. Deputies said speed was a factor in the crash but impairment was not. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the crash.
