Rays-Twins: A look at Thursday’s series opener at Target Field

A look at the 8:10 p.m. Thursday opener of the three-game Rays-Twins series:

Time/place: 8:10, Target Field, Minneapolis

TV/radio: Fox Sports Sun; 620-AM, 680-AM (Spanish)

Probable pitchers

RAYS: LH Blake Snell (12-4, 2.09)

TWINS: RH Kyle Gibson (3-6, 3.59)

On Snell: The majors' best pitcher not to appear on an All-Star roster (yet), Snell has worked at least seven innings and allowed one run or fewer in each of his last four starts. Only two other Rays pitchers (James Shields, David Price) have enjoyed such a stretch. Over his last 10 starts, he's 8-1 with a 1.27 ERA.

On Gibson: Surrendered three first-inning runs Saturday against Baltimore, but recovered to work seven innings (allowing only four hits) in a 5-4 win for his first triumph since June 16. Gibson has a respectable 3.63 ERA over his last seven starts, and his 10 quality starts this year already equal his total for all of 2017.
