Smiles, everyone, smiles! Hollywood is ready to announce its latest reboot/disaster of an '80s institution. There's a project now to remake TV's Fantasy Island as a feature length film.
What was it Tattoo used to say? "Da plane! Da plane!" Only in this case, we'll be yelling "So plain! So plain!"
The Hollywood Reporter says actor Michael Peña has been tapped to play Mr. Rourke, the mysterious caretaker of the island that grants seemingly impossible wishes to its guests. And now Dave Bautista is in talks to play a guest of the island who wants to expose the "dark secrets" of the famous getaway.
For those unlucky enough to not have experienced the magic of the original TV show, Fantasy Island was a Saturday night tradition from 1977 to 1984. The series starred Ricardo Montalbán as Mr. Rourke and Hervé Villechaize as his sidekick. Each episode featured a cast of guest stars that spanned the who's who of the entertainment world.
Why the sudden interest in a feature-length reboot? Perhaps it's because HBO is getting a lot of attention for its upcoming movie My Dinner with Herve, which stars Game of Throne's Peter Dinklage as Villechaize.
Look for Fantasy Island – the movie – to hit screens in late 2019 or 2020.
