Report: Top Gun 2 auditions for Goose’s son held in Clearwater

Are you ready for a couple of too-crazy-to-be-true rumors about Top Gun 2? Movieweb and the Hollywood Reporter say producers have auditioned actors to play the role of Goose's son and that the auditions were actually held earlier this week in Clearwater.

"Insiders" claim Clearwater was the go-to spot because Tom Cruise – slated to reprise his role as Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell – was in town preparing for a press tour for Mission: Impossible Fallout. Among the leading contenders for the son of Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (played by Anthony Edwards in the 1986 film) are Nicholas Hoult, Glen Powell and Miles Teller. (Teller is from Citrus County.)

FROM 2016: Penthouse plans in downtown Clearwater fuel Tom Cruise, Scientology rumors

No word yet on whether the plot will revolve around Goose's son, why he might be at the Navy fighter school or whether Meg Ryan will return to play his mother.

Two other familiar faces from Top Gun have already confirmed they'll be back: Val Kilmer will return as "Iceman" and Kenny Loggins – king of the '80s soundtracks – has confirmed that a version of his anthem Danger Zone is being worked on for the film.

Top Gun 2: Maverick is still set to buzz the tower on July 12, 2019.
