There are very few things Hollywood gets right these days when it comes to making sequels from the movies of our generation. Thankfully, Rocky movies are one of the good things. And the very first trailer for Creed 2 – the newest sequel – gives us cause for hope again. (Watch it here.)
The trailer, released Wednesday, shows Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) looked near-ancient -is that a thing? – while counseling his protege Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) to call it quits from the boxing world before he ends up like his father Apollo. (I'm getting teary already.)
This being a Rocky movie, of course he plows forward and we discover the path leads to a Russian boxer named … Drago. Yes, presumably the son of Ivan Drago from Rocky IV. (We don't see actor Dolph Lundgren in the trailer, but it's the worst-kept secret that he's appearing in Creed 2.)
All in all, I think this one's worth paying to see in the cineplex – well, at matinee prices, of course … I'm not a monster.
Creed 2 hits theaters on Nov. 21. Let's hope it's not Hollywood's fall turkey.
