The biggest country singers these days might be plugged-in powerhouses like Kenny Chesney and Chris Stapleton, but there’s a lot to be said for scaling things back.

It has worked wonders for Tampa country station 99.5 QYK, which since 2015 has put on one of Tampa Bay’s neatest musical nights: an acoustic singer-songwriter showcase in the round, usually featuring some of Nashville’s top talents.

This year’s Guitar Pull is set for Nov. 17 at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, and the station has dropped the lineup: Carly Pearce (Every Little Thing), Morgan Wallen (Whiskey Glasses), Chase Rice (Eyes On You), Jordan Davis (Singles You Up) and Hardy (Rednecker).

While the stars will sing their own songs, the focus here is on the songs they’ve written — and they’ve produced some big ones. Rice co-wrote Florida Georgia Line’s Cruise; Hardy co-wrote Blake Shelton’s God’s Country and Florida Georgia Line’s Simple.

There should be ample opportunity for collaboration, especially between Wallen and Hardy. Hardy co-wrote Wallen’s Up Down, and they duet on the pretty fun new single He Went to Jared.

Tickets to Guitar Pull start at $55 and go on sale Friday. Click here for details.

In the meantime, if you’re into country songwriters, check out the Downtown St. Petersburg Songwriters Festival Nov. 1 to 3, which will feature sets from the Warren Brothers, Aaron Barker (George Strait’s Baby Blue), Tim James (Lee Brice’s Love Like Crazy) and more. Click here for details.
