St. Petersburg favorite the Getaway has closed its second waterfront location in south St. Pete’s Skyway Marina District. Influenced by the Florida Keys and other coastal destinations, the indoor-outdoor Maximo Marina bar and restaurant at 3769 50th Ave. S took to Facebook on Wednesday to announce the news.
“We will no longer be operating out of this location. Thank you for your support," reads the post on its page with more than 150 reactions, more than 130 shares and more than 250 comments.
In an email to the Times, Getaway partner Scott Tashkin said he can’t comment on the Maximo Marina location at this time.
“As for The Getaway we are the same fun waterfront restaurant and tiki bar so many have loved and supported over the years,” Tashkin continued. “As always, we’ll continue to own, operate and improve that location.”
The Getaway first opened in tropical digs along Gandy Boulevard in 2014. Last June, the popular hangout brought seafood-forward dishes, cocktails and tiki-bar vibes to the Skyway Marina District, which was created to drive activity near Eckerd College and the Sunshine Skyway.
Part of the $25 million Maximo Marina renovation off Boca Ciega Bay, the Getaway offered unobstructed views of the marina, a 4,000-square-foot indoor dining room and bar, a spacious patio shaded by umbrellas and an outdoor bar closer to the water.
